Proto-Luke

An earlier form of the gospel of Luke. Several British scholars in the period between the two world wars argued that the gospel of Luke was compiled in three stages: the earliest form (Proto-Luke) consisted of Q + L; to this compilation most of Mark was added, and the whole was finally prefaced by the infancy narratives (1 and 2). It is a theory now generally discarded.
